It is located in the municipality of Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, about 200 kilometres north of Tokyo on the main island. Covering an area of about 126 hectares, the power output is 40 MWp. Fukushima Prefecture has vast tracts of land and many of the regions in the Tōhoku region have relatively long daylight hours. This provides sufficient sunlight and therefore suitable conditions for solar power generation.
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, Fukushima Prefecture has actively promoted the introduction of renewable energy.
As a region affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, it is important for Fukushima Prefecture to work towards reconstruction and the realisation of a sustainable society. The construction of solar power plants can contribute to local reconstruction activities as an environmentally friendly energy source.
