Battery energy storage system (BESS) technology project, located in the municipality of Katagami, Akita prefecture, Tohoku region, in the north of the country. It consists of a storage facility with a total capacity of 25 MW. Akita prefecture is rich in renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar energy. The installation of energy storage stations makes it possible to store energy at times of peak renewable energy generation and supply it at times of shortage. Japan is a country prone to natural disasters, but this will ensure a stable supply of energy and play an important role in supporting the security and livelihood of local residents.
